Digging Down to the Root with Ken Mauser

We’re digging deep into the world of Aquatrols’ Western Territory Manager, Ken Mauser. Get to know him better below.

What is your role at Aquatrols?

Western Territory Manager, territory agronomist for California, Arizona and Nevada covering golf, sports turf, landscape and nursery/greenhouse.

How long have you been with the company?

Since October 1, 1991.

Where did you grow up, and what brought you to your current city?

I grew up in a small farming community in central California. After college, I began my career working as an agronomist in the ag community close to home. After 55 years in California, my wife and I decided it was time to move. We ended up in Henderson, Nevada.

What does your typical day look like?

Up at 5:00AM, out the door by 6:00AM, back to home or hotel around 6:00PM.

What drew you to this field, and how did you get started?

I spent the first 10 years of my career on the ag side of the business, helping growers with their crops. In 1984, I had the opportunity to switch how I used my talent. That was the beginning of a now 42-year-career in the turf and ornament industry.

What’s your favorite part of the job or most rewarding project you’ve worked on?

I enjoy the people and the interaction. I enjoy the problem-solving side of the job as well.

How do you see the industry evolving in the next few years?

Good question, and difficult question. Obviously, AI will be part of this answer. Robotics is another part. How many jobs and processes will be altered due to these two? Changes in chemistry will change the surfactant world.

Is there a product or innovation from Aquatrols you’re particularly excited about right now?

There is a potential future product we are working on that has a bunch of opportunities and is a shift in chemistry.

Do you have a favorite industry tip or tool?

Using the testing methods, we have so we don’t guess at how to solve problems.

If you weren’t in this field, what would you be doing instead?

Farming. I enjoy growing things.

What’s one surprising thing people might not know about you?

Teaching. My mother was a teacher, so I guess I got it from her. I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned over all these years.

What is your favorite hobby, activity, or creative outlet?

Shooting firearms and fishing.

First concert?

I was 12 years old on a family vacation. We went to the Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City and saw the Righteous Brothers.

Coffee or tea?
